Sheffield Open X-Country Races - Saturday 27th December 2008 (full results)
This was the second consecutive year that this race has been held and it incorporated the Striders X-Country Championship Race. A poor turn out from Striders, perhaps caused by the close proximity to Christmas day? See Striders X-Coutry Page
New York marathon - Sunday 2nd November 2008 (full results)
Report by Angela Cooper
I'm happy to report I finished the New York Marathon in 4:06 despite
a stonking cold and a 5 hour wait in the freezing cold near the start
line!! The Warldorf Hotel facilities and the bottle of champagne
waiting for me back at the hotel room more than made up for it all. The kids loved NY and so did I;
we'll be back!!

Cutler's Relay, Graves Park, Sheffield - Sunday 12th October 2008 (full results)
This was the South Yorkshire X-Country Relay Championships. The mens relay was 4 x 2 miles; Striders team finished second in the vets race. Dave Campbell finished without breaking sweat and registered the fastest leg in the vets race!
I have run hundreds of miles in theses shoes, and what do I get after 6 miles in the above, yes, a BLISTER! I couldn't believe it! However, that apart, what a great atmosphere but as other Striders who have done this race will know it is not one for P.B.s. On the Saturday we had watched the elite doing the mile and two mile and the youngsters doing their races in the pouring rain but we woke on Sunday morning to clear skies and with the temperature just right for a half marathon. Jason stayed with his hobbling Dad and we both finished 1hr 56 although how we were separated by 7 places I don't know - Jason in 10,592th place and me 10,599th (10th of those born in 1942 ) - but I suppose with over 50,000 participants it's quite understandable. Definitely one to do again. And by the way the Red Arrows display at the finish was breathtaking.
